Acacia (Acacia Mangium) is a tropical tree from Australia, Indonesia & Papua New Guinea. It is a fast growing pioneer species established as a plantation tree in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the philippines. 50,000 hectares of plantations have been established in Penisular Malaysia since 1983, mainly in Pahang and Johor States. |

|
Plantation grown wood is liable to split during felling, extraction and sawing because of high internal stresses and the weak juvenile heartwood core. Small logs contain many knots which are frequently unsound. Heartrot is often present in juvenile heartwood occasionally affecting mature heartwood. Some trees are attacked by stem-borer, pinhole-boreror terminates. |

| End Uses |
| |
| |
Acacia is a lighty hardwood with contrasting heart and sapwood and a characteristic core of density juvenile heartwood. It has good mechanical and working properties and is suitable for a wide range of uses where high strenght is not required. Existing plantation-grown wood is very well suited for use as raw materials for pulp and paper, medium density fibreboard (MDF), plywood cross-core and laminated veneer lumber (LVL). It can also be used for sliced veneer and solid timber products. Early thinnings and all residues can be used as a feedstock for many reconstituted wood products. |
